Top movers: Sensex, Nifty 50 erase early loss as metal stocks shine, Tata Steel, Hindalco lead gainers

The domestic market staged volatility on Friday due to a mix of global and domestic factors, including foreign fund outflows and rupee weakness.

After a low opening, Sensex traded flat at 80,993.58 at 12.48 pm after reclaiming the 81,000 mark from the day’s low of 80,649.57. Nifty 50 traded at 24,834.50, moderating between 24,747.55 and 24,855.70.

Among sectors, the metal index led with a rise of over 2 per cent over 10,330 level (against 10,092.95 previous close). Banking, financials, and consumer durables also traded in positive territory, while media and realty indices saw the biggest declines. However, financial stocks surrendered the gains in early trade from the previous session following the RBI’s dovish pause and the announcement of new lending reforms.

Top gainers & losers intraday

Among the Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Hindalco, Power Grid, Kotak Mahindra and JSW Steel led the gainers with 2—4 per cent uptick. On the flip side, Max Health fell close to 4 per cent. Coal India, SBI Life, Maruti, Tech Mahindra and Sun Pharma following with 1-2 per cent decline.

A total of 3,036 stocks were traded on the National Stock Exchange, among which 1,704 advanced, 1,218 and 104 stocks remained unchanged.



JSW Steel, Hindalco, Canara Bank and Jindal Steel were among the 81 stocks that hit a 52-week high, whereas 44 stocks, including Dhanlaxmi Crop Science, fell to their 52-week low.

In addition, 90 stocks, such as Aegis Logistics, scaled to hit the upper circuit limit, and 48 (including Unimech) touched the lower circuit limit.

Midcap & smallcap movers

Under the midcap segment, National Aluminium, Kalyan Jewellers, Waaree Energies, Indian Bank, Hero Motorcorp and MRF soared 2-4 per cent, while ITC Hotels, Ashok Leyland, Suzlon, IGL and Prestige depreciated by 2 per cent.

Aegis Logistics rallied 12 per cent under the smallcap basket. GE Ship, Data Patterns, Shyam Metalics, IFCI and Aegis Vopak surged 4-7 per cent. Cholamandalam Financial Holdings, Ola Electric, Devyani International, Affle, KFin Tech dropped 2-4 per cent.

On the BSE, KIOCL, Avantel, Aegis Logistics and VMart zoomed 10-20 per cent, while Tata Investment, Sun TV, Shaily, Max Health and Cholamandalam Financial depreciated 4-4.5 per cent.
