Tech stocks lift indices in choppy mid-day trade; Sensex slips 171 points 

surrendered early gains to trade lower by mid-day on Wednesday, with down 170.77 points at 81,755.98 and the declining 62.60 points to 25,045.70 as of 12:45 pm, despite technology stocks continuing to provide support.

The Sensex opened marginally lower at 81,899.51 against the previous close of 81,926.75, while the Nifty started at 25,079.75 compared to Tuesday’s close of 25,108.30. The indices showed a decline of 0.21 per cent and 0.25 per cent respectively during the session.

Technology stocks dominated the gainers list on the Nifty50, with Titan Company surging 3.67 per cent to ₹3,543.50, marking the strongest performance among index constituents. Infosys advanced 1.84 per cent to ₹1,485.30, while Tata Consultancy Services gained 1.69 per cent to ₹3,024.00. HCL Technologies rose 1.23 per cent to ₹1,451.10, and Tech Mahindra climbed 1.10 per cent to ₹1,454.70.

On the losing side, UltraTech Cement led the decliners with a drop of 1.90 per cent to ₹11,952.00. Bharat Electronics fell 1.56 per cent to ₹403.90, while Mahindra & Mahindra declined 1.49 per cent to ₹3,440.80. Tata Motors shed 1.48 per cent to ₹687.75, and Jio Financial Services slipped 1.45 per cent to ₹305.40.

Broader market sentiment remained weak, with 2,273 stocks declining against 1,707 advancing out of 4,152 stocks traded on the BSE. The market recorded 134 stocks hitting 52-week highs while 107 touched 52-week lows. Some 197 stocks were locked in the upper circuit, compared to 143 in the lower circuit.

Sectoral indices showed mixed movement, with Nifty Next 50 declining 0.49 per cent to 68,231.90. Nifty Financial Services dropped 0.37 per cent to 26,647.20, while Nifty Bank fell 0.37 per cent to 55,940.75. The Nifty Midcap 100 index slipped 0.40 per cent to 58,001.10.



The reversal from morning highs came despite positive foreign institutional investor activity on the previous trading day, when FIIs purchased ₹1,440 crore worth of equities alongside domestic institutional investor inflows of ₹452 crore.
