The move aims to support free and fair elections and ensure that unaccounted cash and illegal inducements do not influence voters while the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force.

According to the department, the control room will remain active throughout the election period and function as part of its wider election surveillance system.



Citizens have been encouraged to share information related to the use of black money, cash distribution, valuables or other forms of inducement used for election campaigning.

Citizens can share information through WhatsApp, text messages, phone calls or email using official Income Tax Department channels.

The Income Tax Department said it will act swiftly on credible inputs and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.

The department has made it clear that the initiative is meant to deter the circulation of unaccounted money during elections, a long-standing concern in local body polls.

Officials believe citizen participation can play a key role in identifying violations that may otherwise go unnoticed.
