Sensex, Nifty extend mild gains, AMC stocks, IndiGo, Max Healthcare in focus

Equity benchmark indices traded with marginal gains during mid-session on Thursday after slipping in early trade. However, investor sentiment remained cautious amid anticipation of US consumer price inflation data, mixed views on the future path of monetary policy, and the absence of strong positive triggers.

Sensex gained 152.62 points or 0.18 per cent to 84,712.27 at 1.04 pm after opening at 84,518.33 and hitting a low of 84,238.43.
Nifty 50 rose by 66.35 points or 0.26 per cent to 25,884.90 after moderating between 25,726.30-25,902.35.

Sectoral performance was mixed. IT and financial stocks soared over 1 per cent, while realty, metal, consumer durables and banking indices traded with modest gains. On the other hand, media, auto, chemicals and pharma dipped.

Meanwhile, AMC stocks such as HDFC AMC, NAM-India, UTI AMC and others gained traction after SEBI announcedd several tweaks to mutual fund regulations around expense ratios and exit loads.

IndiGo, Max Health, TCS lead gainers of Nifty 50

Among the Nifty 50 pack, InterGlobe Aviation, Max Healthcare, Tata Consultancy Services, Hindalco and Infosys led the gainers, while Sun Pharma, Power Grid, NTPC, M&M and Bajaj Auto depreciated the most.

Market breadth was tilted negative, with 3,056 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing. Declines outpaced advances as 1,681 stocks ended lower compared with 1,272 gainers, while 103 stocks remained unchanged. Meanwhile, 46 stocks touched their 52-week highs against 188 at 52-week lows. On the circuit limits front, 43 stocks hit the upper circuit, whereas 22 stocks were locked in the lower circuit.



Midcap and smallcap movers

Under the midcap basket, HDFC AMC, Motilal OFS, Oberoi Realty, Vodafone Idea and PB Fintech soared 3-7 per cent, while Hitachi, Cummins India, Tata Communications, BHEL and Hero Motocorp declined 1-4 per cent.

Smallcap stocks Reliance Power, Hindustan Copper, HBL Engineering, Crompton and Radico zoomed 3-6 per cent, while Ola Electric, Aster DM, MRPL and Aegis Vopak fell 2-5 per cent.
