Sensex, Nifty trade lower amid profit booking and geopolitical tensions, Titan leads jewellery stocks higher

Both midcap and smallcap indices posted modest gains. Sectoral indices traded in a mix. Realty index was down by 1 per cent, while consumer durables and IT rose over 1 per cent each.

In addition, chemicals, pharma and metal indices traded with modest gains, while auto, oil & gas and banking indices dipped.

Titan leads Nifty 50 pack

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, Titan, Jio Financial, HCL Tech, Wipro and Infosys led the gainers, while Cipla, Max Healthcare, TMPV, Maruti Suzuki and Power Grid dragged the most.

Shares of jewellery players witnessed strong gains on Wednesday due to Q3 growth. Jewellery and watch maker zoomed 5 per cent as it reported a 40 per cent annual growth in standalone revenue during the December quarter of FY26, aided by surging gold prices.

Market breadth on the National Stock Exchange remained negative at the time of writing, reflecting the cautious undertone in equities, as out of 3,130 stocks traded, 1,662 declined, 1,363 advanced, while 105 stocks were unchanged.

About 87 stocks hit 52-week highs, while 91 stocks slipped to 52-week lows. 51 stocks locked in the upper circuit, while 44 counters hit the lower circuit during the session.

Midcap & smallcap movers

Midcap stocks Tata Elxsi, Hitachi Energy, Tata Tech, KPIT Tech and Persistent Systems surged 4-8 per cent, while M&M Financial Services, Prestige Estate, Oil India, Jubilant Foods and IndusInd Bank fell 2-5 per cent.

Under the smallcap segment, Neuland Lab, Radico, Wockhardt, Tata Chemicals and JBM Auto soared 3 per cent. Ola Electric, IIFL, Cholamandalam Holdings, IGIL and Zen Tech depreciated by 3-4 per cent.

On the BSE, Elecon Engineering, Thangamayil Jewellery and PC Jeweller were other top gainers, increasing 6-8 per cent.
