No crisis: Government reassures on LPG availability, urges consumers to avoid panic booking

The government on Friday sought to reassure consumers over LPG availability, saying there is no crisis in the supply of cooking gas and urging people not to indulge in panic booking.

Addressing concerns over reports of shortages in some areas, Sujatha Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, said LPG production has been increased by around 30% since March 5 to meet rising demand.

She said the government has taken steps to ramp up supplies and ensure that LPG cylinders are available across the country.

“Consumers should not resort to panic booking,” Sharma said, adding that the supply situation is being closely monitored by the government.

The reassurance comes amid reports of crowds at LPG agencies in several cities, with residents enquiring about cylinder bookings and delivery timelines due to concerns over supply disruptions.

Officials said the increased production and existing supply chain arrangements are expected to help stabilise the situation and ensure regular availability of LPG cylinders.
