APSEZ enters South America, bags 10-year contract for Argentina’s first LNG export projectto India

A (APSEZ) has won a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project to India, marking the company’s entry into South America.

The contract, secured through a consortium with Argentina-based Meridian Group, will support the Southern Energy floating LNG (FLNG) project in Argentina’s Río Negro province. The project, expected to commence commercial operations in 2027, is among the country’s most significant energy infrastructure developments and will underpin LNG exports to global markets, including India, the company said in an official release on Monday.

Under the agreement, the consortium will provide end-to-end marine services for the LNG export project, including tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics and supply support, and crew transfer services. To support these operations, the consortium will deploy four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel and one crew boat.

The deal expands APSEZ’s international marine services portfolio and reinforces its growing role in LNG logistics and offshore energy infrastructure. The company said the project will involve an estimated investment commitment of about $70 million and will be executed through a joint venture between its subsidiary Adani Harbour International FZCO and Meridian Group. The contract was awarded by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA) following a global competitive tender process. APSEZ’s step-down subsidiary, Adani Harbour International FZCO, secured the mandate through a consortium arrangement with Meridian Group.

“This project reflects our growing capability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across geographies,” stated Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer of APSEZ. “With marine operations in 12 countries and a growing fleet of marine assets supporting ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries and offshore facilities, we bring deep operational expertise to complex maritime environments. By combining these capabilities with strong local partnerships, we are helping create reliable maritime ecosystems that enable new energy trade corridors and strengthen long-term supply resilience,” he added.

The project comes at a time when Argentina is positioning itself as a major emerging LNG exporter. Agreements are already in place to support exports of up to 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG to India from 2027, creating a new energy supply corridor between the two countries. The Southern Energy FLNG project is expected to play a key role in connecting Argentina’s growing natural gas resources with international demand centres.

SESA, the project developer, is a joint venture between Golar LNG and Pan American Energy (PAE). Located in the San Matías Gulf in Argentina’s Río Negro Province, the project will liquefy natural gas supplied through the General San Martin pipeline aboard the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas vessel Hilli Episeyo. Commercial operations are expected to begin in September 2027. In its first phase, the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, equivalent to approximately 28 LNG cargoes a year, making it Argentina’s first operational LNG export project.

The marine services contract will be executed through Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A., a 51:49 joint venture between Adani Harbour International FZCO and Meridian Group.
