Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, calling it an “exemplary” performance achieved despite global economic uncertainties, oil price shocks and supply-chain disruptions.

“India’s exemplary during Q1 of FY 2026-27 is a herculean feat,” Modi said in a post on X. He credited the collective strength of Indians for delivering the strong growth despite the challenges facing the global economy.

“Doomsayers were doomed and India bloomedyet again,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi’s comments came after India recorded 7.8% economic growth in the April-June quarter, underscoring the resilience of the economy amid external pressures.

He highlighted oil price shocks and supply-chain issues as some of the challenges faced by the economy during the quarter, while also pointing to continued global uncertainty.

The Prime Minister said the latest growth performance reflected the “collective strength” of the country’s people.

The Prime Minister is currently on a four-day visit to Central Asia.

He arrived in Uzbekistan on August 29 for a bilateral visit at the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He is also attending the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and more than a dozen other leaders are attending the summit.

The SCO meeting comes as member countries seek to strengthen regional cooperation and increase the group’s influence amid shifting global geopolitical and economic dynamics.
