Infrastructure development company SPML Infra, which is setting up its Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Pune, on Friday said its proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack has completed key global certification and testing requirements.
In a stock exchange filing, the Kolkata-based company said the newly developed battery pack has completed key international safety, performance and transportation certification and testing requirements, marking a step towards commercial deployment.
“The battery pack has been engineered and developed as part of SPML’s strategy to build indigenous technology and manufacturing capabilities for India’s rapidly expanding grid-scale energy storage market,” the company said, adding it believes that combining proprietary product engineering with domestic manufacturing and its established EPC execution capabilities could create a differentiated platform for participation in the country’s emerging energy storage ecosystem.
Abhinandan Sethi, Managing Director, SPML Infra Limited, said, “The validation of our proprietary 104.4 kWh battery pack represents an important milestone in SPML Infra’s energy storage journey. What makes this particularly significant for us is that we are developing technology and engineering capabilities within SPML, rather than limiting our role to manufacturing or project execution.”
Completion of international certification and testing requirements provided important validation of the safety and engineering foundations of the product, Sethi added.
According to the company, the required compliances address critical areas including thermal runaway safety, battery performance, system functional safety, electromagnetic compatibility and transportation safety.
“SPML Infra’s state-of-the-art BESS manufacturing facility in Pune, with an initial production capacity of 2.5 GWh, is nearing completion. As part of its growth strategy, the company plans to expand the facility’s capacity to 5 GWh, establishing a significant domestic manufacturing base for advanced energy storage solutions and supporting India’s drive towards self-reliance in clean energy technologies,” the company said in its latest annual report.
