Park Medi World’s Signature Hospital has launched a Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Sciences Programme, expanding its transplant and specialised hepatobiliary services for patients in the National Capital Region and neighbouring States.
Led by Dr Naganathan Selvakumar, along with Dr Ravi Kumar and Dr Senthan, the programme will undertake living-donor liver transplantation (LDLT), deceased-donor liver transplantation (DDLT), and paediatric liver transplantation. It will also provide surgical treatment for complex liver, biliary and pancreatic disorders.
Dedicated facilities for transplant care
The programme brings together transplant surgery, hepatology, critical care, anaesthesia, radiology, pathology and transplant coordination services. The hospital has established a dedicated transplant intensive care unit, a laminar-flow operating theatre and round-the-clock blood bank and transfusion facilities to support transplant procedures and post-operative care.
The hospital will also undertake surgery for cancers of the liver, bile duct, gallbladder and pancreas, along with complex biliary reconstruction and procedures for portal hypertension.
Programme to serve patients across northern States
Liver disease remains a major healthcare burden in India, with viral hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease among the key causes.
With transplant services concentrated in a limited number of centres, patients from Haryana and surrounding regions often travel to larger metropolitan centres for evaluation and treatment.
Signature Hospital’s programme in Gurugram is expected to cater to patients from Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab, in addition to those from the wider NCR.
Focus on living-donor safety
Living-donor safety will be a key component of the programme. Prospective donors will undergo independent medical, psychological and social assessments before transplantation, said the hospital.
Donor-recipient pairs will also require clearance from the Authorisation Committee constituted under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, and applicable rules, it added.
The hospital said its transplant programme is registered with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation.
