Banks across India will observe at least 14 holidays in April 2026, counting scheduled closures, the second and fourth Saturdays, and state-specific festivals.
holiday calendar, combined with regional observances, means customers in several states will encounter multiple consecutive days without banking services.
Good Friday on 3 April will trigger a nationwide bank closure, followed immediately by the second Saturday on 4 April — effectively giving most customers a two-day banking blackout.
The State Bank of India and all public and private sector banks will remain shut on Eid-ul-Fitr, the date of which is subject to moon sighting.
The single heaviest closure day of the month falls on 14 April, when Dr Ambedkar Jayanti, Tamil New Year, Vaisakh, Biju Festival, Vishu, and the beginning of Bohag Bihu all converge. Banks in the majority of Indian states will be shut on this date. The Bohag Bihu closure extends through 20 April in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh — a week-long disruption for those states.
The fourth Saturday on 18 April adds another all-India closure. State-specific holidays round out the month: Bengali New Year and Himachal Day on 15 April, Maharshi Parasuram Jayanti on 19 April across five states, Basava Jayanti in Karnataka on 20 April, and Garia Puja in Tripura on 21 April.
Banking customers are advised to plan large transactions and loan processing in the working days prior to each closure. Digital banking services remain operational on all holidays.
