Defence stocks rally 1.38% as Paras Defence, BDL lead sector gains

The Nifty India Defence index surged 113.20 points to 8,289.50, marking a 1.38 per cent gain in Friday’s trading session as the market approached closing hours. The sectoral index opened at 8,179.30 against a previous close of 8,176.30, with 14 constituents advancing against just 4 decliners.

Paras Defence and Space Technologies led the rally with a 6.64 per cent jump to ₹766.50, followed by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), which climbed 6.26 per cent to ₹1,612.90. (GRSE) gained 5.46 per cent to ₹2,900, while Dynamatic Technologies and Zen Technologies added 5.28 per cent and 4.93 per cent, respectively.

BDL dominated trading activity with a turnover of ₹1,393.47 crore on volumes of 86.42 lakh shares, making it the most active stock by both value and volume. GRSE and Data Patterns followed with turnovers of ₹961.88 crore and ₹723.55 crore. (BEL) recorded the highest volume at 133.22 lakh shares, contributing ₹565.15 crore in value.

The sector recorded total trading volumes of 433.61 lakh shares worth ₹5,896.69 crore. However, Midhani declined 4.54 per cent, while Cyient DLM and Astra Microwave Products fell 1.64 per cent and 1.32 per cent, respectively.

The defence index has delivered strong returns across timeframes, posting 37.18 per cent gains over one year and 26.72 per cent year-to-date, reflecting sustained investor interest in the sector.
