Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) on Thursday informed the stock exchanges that Krishna Kumar Singh has taken additional charge of Chairman & Managing Director of the company. He has succeeded Amarendu Prakash who resigned on April 1. Meanwhile, the company announced that it achieved its highest-ever performance in FY 2025-26.
According to a stock exchange filing, Prakash submitted his resignation on January 2, 2026, to the Steel Ministry. It was approved with effect from April 1, 2026. Accordingly, he handed over charge to Krishna Kumar Singh, Director (Personnel), SAIL. He has been given the additional charge of the post of CMD for a period of 3 months or till appointment and joining of regular incumbent to the post or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
Prakash served SAIL in various capacities for 34 years and sources said that he had 2 more years before superannuation. Meanwhile, acting CMD Singh started his career in 1987 as a Management Trainee at Bhilai Steel Plant, where he spent over a decade in the Blooming & Billet Mill before transitioning to HRD. Rising steadily through the ranks, he has held several leadership positions, including Executive Director (In-Charge) Personnel & Administration and was appointed Director (Personnel) in 2022.

Meanwhile, in a statement company said that it recorded best-ever sales of 20.14 million Tones (mt), in FY26, showing a growth of 11.5 per cent growth over the previous year’s 18.07 mt. This growth was broad-based, with sales rising across all product categories. On the production front, the company delivered its best-ever crude steel output at 19.43 mt and saleable steel production at 19.176 mt, surpassing all previous records.
Achieving record supplies of 1.25 MT to Indian Railways, alongside all-time high long rail production from the Universal Rail Mill, highlights operational excellence and strategic contribution to India’s rail expansion. Exports surged to 2.9 lakh tones, registering a remarkable 162 per cent growth, with SAIL successfully expanding into new international markets, including Bhutan.
