Markets extend consolidation in midday trade amid mixed cues

remained under pressure in afternoon trade on Wednesday, with the down 240.04 points or 0.28 per cent at 84,823.30 and the falling 73.95 points or 0.28 per cent to 26,104.75 as of 12.35 pm.

The Sensex opened at 84,620.40 against its previous close of 85,063.34, while the Nifty started at 26,143.10 compared to Tuesday’s close of 26,178.70. Markets continued their consolidation phase as profit booking persisted at higher levels.

Titan Company emerged as the top Nifty50 gainer, surging 4.63 per cent to ₹4,302.30, followed by Jio Financial Services which gained 2.11 per cent to ₹304.85. HCL Technologies advanced 1.76 per cent to ₹1,644.80, while Wipro rose 1.58 per cent to ₹269.80 and Eicher Motors climbed 1.47 per cent to ₹283.15.

Cipla led the losers pack, declining 4.31 per cent to ₹1,464.80, followed by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles which dropped 2.56 per cent to ₹359.45. Max Healthcare fell 2.18 per cent to ₹1,028.70, while Power Grid Corporation shed 1.58 per cent to ₹264.30 and Maruti Suzuki declined 1.57 per cent to ₹17,021.

Market breadth remained weak with 2,086 stocks declining against 1,888 advances on the BSE, where 4,170 stocks were traded. A total of 121 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 88 touched 52-week lows. As many as 146 stocks were locked in upper circuit and 122 in lower circuit.

Sectoral indices showed mixed performance with the Nifty Bank down 0.38 per cent at 59,897.20 and Nifty Financial Services declining 0.41 per cent to 27,821.35.



The Nifty Next 50 shed 0.10 per cent to 70,527.75. However, the Nifty Midcap 100 bucked the trend, gaining 0.14 per cent to 61,232.40, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 was marginally lower at 17,886, down 0.02 per cent.

Trading volumes remained subdued as investors remained cautious ahead of key developments, with concerns over US tariffs and geopolitical tensions continuing to weigh on sentiment.
