SAIL posts best-ever December sales, volumes jump 37%

Public sector steel major Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on Monday said it sold 21 lakh tonnes of steel in December, marking its best-ever performance for the month.

The December number was 37 per cent higher than the corresponding month of 2024. Its share was trading at ₹148.70 during mid-day on BSE with a gain of nearly 1 per cent

“This is the best ever showing for the month of December, and saw the Company scale new peaks across product categories and different sales channels with significant inventory reduction. The performance was buoyed by maintaining strong focus on customer deliveries,” the company said in a statement, while adding that it has also been undertaking branding initiatives with renewed vigour recently.

The performance during the month helped SAIL sustain its growth momentum during FY26, with sales volume reaching 147 lakh tonnes through April-December’25, a growth of about 17 per cent compared to 126 lakh tonnes during April-December 2024. Apart from the records set in the domestic market, export volumes have also surged significantly, underscoring SAIL’s growing global footprint.

“The consistent improvement highlights SAIL’s strengthened market presence, customer-centric initiatives and operational excellence. The record-breaking achievements by SAIL across both domestic and international markets not only reinforce it amongst leaders in India but also expected to catapult its position to a higher pedestal amongst top steel companies globally,” the statement said.
