staged a strong rally on Friday, amid broad-based buying interest in banking, auto, realty, IT and heavyweight stocks.
traded 497.28 points or 0.58 per cent higher at 85,685.88 at 1.23 pm, hitting an intraday high of 85,706.49. climbed 163.75 points or 0.63 per cent to 26,310.30 (closer to the record high of 26,325.80).
Sensex rallied by 638 points and Nifty 50 zoomed 196 points during the session.
The gains were further underpinned by confidence in sustained consumption demand and resilient growth prospects, helping markets extend their upward momentum despite lingering global uncertainties.
The midcap index outperformed the broader market, rising 0.82 per cent, while the smallcap index advanced 0.54 per cent.
Sectorally, all indices traded in the green except FMCG. Nifty auto, realty and PSU bank indices posted gains of over 1 per cent each, whereas the FMCG index slipped 1 per cent.
Nifty Bank index touched a record high of 60,152.35 during the session. Yes Bank, Union Bank of India, IndusInd Bank, Bank of Baroda, PNB, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank led the gainers.
Coal India & NTPC lead Nifty 50, ITC drags
Shares of Coal India, NTPC, Trent, Hindalco and Jio Financial Services led the gainers of Nifty 50 with 2-6 per cent uptick, while ITC, Nestle India, Shriram Finance, Bharati Airtel and Tata Consumer Products emerged as major laggards.
Reliance Industries traded with 1 per cent increase at ₹1,591.30.
Market breadth remained positive, with 3,137 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange at the time of writing. Advancing shares significantly outnumbered declines, as 2,113 stocks traded higher compared with 927 losers, while 97 stocks were unchanged.
Auto stocks hit 52-week high
The session also saw strength at the broader level, with 86 stocks hitting their 52-week highs, many of them were automobile stocks such as TVS Motor, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto and M&M, against 41 stocks touching 52-week lows. In addition, 62 stocks hit the upper circuit, whereas 33 stocks hit the lower circuit.
Midcap & smallcap movers
Under the midcap segment, IREDA, Torrent Power, Dabur India, Sona BLW, National Aluminium and Voltas surged 3-5 per cent, while Waaree Energies, Swiggy, Godfrey Phillips, Tube Investments and Bharti Hexacom declined 1-3 per cent.
Among the smallcap basket, Ola Electric, JBM Auto, Inox Wind, CESC and PGEL zoomed 4-7 per cent, while Radico, Lal Path Labs, MRPL and Signature Global dipped 1-4 per cent.
On the BSE, IDBI, TARIL and Bosch rallied 8-9 per cent. ITC, ABDL, Thomas Cook and Sapphire Foods were top losers.
