Sensex, Nifty in red, BEL, HDFC Life lead gainers, FMCG stocks drag, Unimech, LIC, Triveni, shares in action

Market traded in negative territory amid mixed global cues. Sensex declined 106.01 pts or 0.13 per cent to 81,445.62 as at 12.36 pm, and Nifty 50 dipped 38.35 pts or 0.15 per cent to 24,787.85.

Both midcap and smallcap indexes traded with marginal gains, 0.34 per cent and 0.47 per cent, respectively. On the sectoral front, FMCG dragged, auto, metal and healthcare dipped. All other indices including media, banking, IT, realty and oil & gas showed resilience.

Top gainers & losers

Shares of Bharat Electronics, HDFC Life, Bajaj Finance, Bharti Airtel and Adani Ports led the gainers of Nifty 50 in the mid-day trading session.

On the flip side, shares of Bajaj Auto and Nestle India declined close to 2 per cent. Apollo Hospitals, ITC and Tata Consumer Products fell over 1 per cent.

About 1,504 stocks advanced and 1,184 declined of all the 2,763 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange intraday. 69 stocks including Unimech, Sky Gold, Nibe, Avalon, Kernex hit the upper circuit, while 17 stocks hit lower circuit.

47 stocks including BEL, Cholamandalam Investment, Choice International, and more hit 52-week high and 13 stocks hit 52-week low.

On the BSE, IFCI, Techno Electric, MMTC and Juniper Hotels jumped 10-15 per cent. DCX India fell sharply by 6 per cent.

ITI, PGEL, , and Welspun Corp surged 4-8 per cent among smallcap stocks. Bharti Hexacom, Indus Towe, Vodafone Idea, IGL and Suzlon gained 3-5 per cent among midcap.

Additionally, defence index surged driven by Astra Microwave Products and Unimech led with 7 per cent and 10 per cent increase, respectively. GRSE surged 4 per cent. 

, Triveni Engineering, Medplus, Bosch, BDL shares were in focus post Q4 results. IRCTC, SAIL, JSW Holdings, Bata, Dr Agarwals Health Care, Finolex Cables, Natco Pharma, Welspun Corp and more are set to announce Q4 results today.
