Good Friday holiday: Will NSE and BSE be open or closed on April 3?

If you were planning to trade on Friday, you may want to pause those plans. Indian stock markets will remain closed on April 3 on account of Good Friday, giving traders a long weekend break this week.

Good Friday is a significant day for Christians around the world. It marks the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Observed during Holy Week, it is a day of prayer, fasting and reflection, leading up to Easter Sunday, which celebrates his resurrection.

Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed for the day. This means there will be no trading or settlement activity in equity, equity derivatives, or the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segments.

With Friday being a holiday and markets anyway shut on Saturday and Sunday, investors are looking at a three-day break. For active traders, this pause often brings a mix of relief and caution, especially when global cues remain uncertain.

Trading will resume on Monday, April 6, after the weekend.

The stock market holiday list for 2026 includes a total of 16 non-trading days, excluding weekends. With several holidays already behind us, there are still multiple breaks lined up over the coming months.

After Good Friday, markets will remain closed on occasions such as Ambedkar Jayanti in April, Maharashtra Day in May, and major festivals like Dussehra, Diwali and Christmas later in the year.

While a holiday may seem like a pause, global markets continue to move. Any major international developments during this period can impact market sentiment when trading resumes.

For now, however, domestic markets will take a brief break before returning to action next week.
