French auto major aims to make India one of its top three global markets by 2030 on the back of speedier launches and more electrification efforts, global CEO Francois Provost said on Thursday.
Speaking at an event in Chennai, the CEO unveiled the company’s FutuREady plan for India which includes reaching seven multi-energy vehicle models in India by 2030.
“We will introduce new vehicles, bringing our portfolio to seven models by 2030. We have already launched the new Duster, and we are already seeing strong interest and enthusiasm from customers,” Provost said in his address.
Global integration
The India strategy also includes plans to integrate India more deeply into Renault Group’s global value chain, the global CEO said.
We will integrate India into global supply chain through vehicle, component, and R&D exports, he said, setting an objective to reach €2 billion annually in such exports by 2030.
“The Chennai plant was built in 2008 as part of our partnership with Nissan. Less than 1 year ago, Renault Group took full control of the plant. This decision reflects the confidence we have in our Indian ecosystem,” Provost said.
The company also presented the new Bridger concept, a multi-energy vehicle, and has a goal to begin its production in India in the second half of next year.
India is already a major source of engineering and innovation for Renault Group. It has 6,000 engineers in vehicle engineering in Chennai, in a centre that is the largest outside of France.
The centre will help us deploy new technologies in India in two key platforms – Renault Group Entry Platform and the Renault Group Modular Platform, Provost said.
