Air India may introduce ‘no meals’ tickets on domestic flights to cut fares

Air India is considering introducing a new ticket category that would allow passengers to travel without paying for onboard meals. The proposal is currently under consideration and, if approved, will be available only for domestic flyers.

According to sources, the idea is being explored from a passenger’s perspective. Travellers who do not wish to have food or meals during their journey could choose a “No Meals” ticket and pay less than those booking regular tickets.

already offers different fare categories, and the proposed option could become another choice for passengers looking to reduce travel costs.

Sources said the airline may initially introduce the option on select short domestic routes if it receives approval.

The response from passengers will play an important role in deciding its future. Depending on customer feedback, the airline could either expand the category to more domestic routes or limit its availability.

Meanwhile, the proposed “No Meals” category is not being considered for international services. Even if the plan receives a green signal, it will be restricted to domestic flights.

At present, Air India serves food and meals to all passengers travelling on both domestic and international flights.
