Amazon India announced that it has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across the country as it prepares for higher demand during the upcoming festive season. The opportunities are spread across 400 cities, including metros as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
The seasonal workforce will support Amazon’s e-commerce and quick commerce operations. The new associates will help with picking, packing, shipping and delivering customer orders during the busy festive period.
Amazon said the seasonal opportunities include both direct and indirect work across its pan-India operations network. Cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem and Gorakhpur are among those where these opportunities have been created.
The company has also created opportunities for thousands of women and associates with disabilities.
Amazon said it has already onboarded the majority of the seasonal associates ahead of the festive season. They have also started receiving the required training to prepare them for their roles.
Amazon said seasonal associates will have access to its safety and welfare programmes and benefits, similar to other associates.
These include a safe and supportive workplace, along with safety, financial and social security benefits.
Through its Samridhi programme, Amazon will also help associates joining its operations network enrol on the e-Shram portal and access other government welfare and social security programmes.
“We are committed to providing customers across every pin-code in India with fast and reliable deliveries this festive season. To meet the anticipated increase in customer demand, we have created over 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across our operations network,” said Abhinav Singh, VP – Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.
He said the expanded workforce would help Amazon strengthen its fulfilment and logistics capabilities during the festive season.
Singh added that many seasonal associates continue working with Amazon beyond the festive period, while some return every year for seasonal work.
Amazon India has a nationwide fulfilment and delivery network supporting more than 1.7 million sellers across the country.
The company has fulfilment centres across 15 states, with more than 43 million cubic feet of storage space for seller inventory. It also has sortation centres in 19 states and close to 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations.
The network further includes 28,000 Hub delivery partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners who support deliveries across India.
