Impensus Electronics Private Limited, a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Madras Research Park, has raised ₹1.6 crore in its Pre-Series A round , with participation from angel investors affiliated with Keiretsu Forum Chennai Chapter and IN44 Capital.
Founded by Guru Vignesh V and Dinesh Narayanan, Impensus has developed a controlled environment technology platform that monitors and regulates ethylene concentrations, temperature, humidity, and other parameters within enclosed ripening and storage chambers. Essentially, the system helps to extend the shelf life of perishable produce, reduce their spoilage, and standardise ripening outcomes.
The company currently focuses on banana, mango, apple and specialised edible mushrooms. Its commercial partnerships include BigBasket, Paiyur group and other leading distributors supporting quick commerce companies like Hyperpure, Zepto lending credibility to the technology’s applicability at scale.
The start-up plans to use the capital towards scaling commercial operations, product development, and regulatory approvals for its solutions that helps reduce post harvest losses in the agricultural supply chain.
Its proprietary capability to actively control ethylene -the plant hormone that governs the ripening process- alongside a broader set of microclimate variables is its edge, the company said.
Impensus has also received institutional backing from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, channelled through the Crescent Innovation and Incubation Council (CIIC).
“Our platform gives produce handlers the ability to precisely control the biological processes that govern shelf life, rather than simply refrigerating their way through the problem. This round enables us to deepen our technology and bring it to more handlers across the value chain,” Guru Vignesh V, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Impensus Electronics, said.
“Impensus represents exactly the kind of deep-tech opportunity Keiretsu Forum Chennai seeks to back – a capable founding team, proprietary technology addressing a real economic challenge, and early validation from marquee clients,” Gowtham Sarvesh R R, Partner, Keiretsu Forum Chennai and Singapore, who led the fundraise, said.
