Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: The Delhi government is set to soon launch its flagship financial aid programme for women beneficiaries in the state. Initially rolled out by the AAP-led government, the current Chief Minister Rekha Gupta-led BJP government has rebranded the scheme from Mahila Samriddhi to Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
The scheme will be implemented by the state’s Women and Child Development (WCD) department, headed by CM herself.
Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: How much monthly benefit?
According to an earlier PTI report citing sources, the scheme will provide ₹2,500 monthly covering an estimated 17 lakh from economically weaker sections (EWS) in the national capital from this year.
The initiative aims to strengthen financial independence, self-reliance and dignity of lakhs of women in the national capital, the government said in the statement.
The Delhi government, as per reports, plans to transfer the assistance directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts via (DBT).
The party had in its campaign promised a registration portal for the scheme. In March, Gupta announced ₹5,100 crore allocation for the scheme in her annual state for FY2026-27, it added.
When will the scheme be implemented?
The Delhi government plans to launch the scheme around Raksha Bandhan next month — 28 August 2026.
Notably, while allocation towards the scheme has stayed stable from the previous fiscal, implementation has been delayed. It was previously expected by June but has been pushed due to “lack of authentic data to cross check eligible ”, as per the report.
Chairing a meeting on the matter today, Gupta assessed preparations for launch and said the government aims to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive the benefits, another PTI report said.
Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: What is the eligibility criteria?
To be eligible for benefits:
- Women will have to register for the scheme using a Delhi-based Aadhaar number and belong to the below poverty line (BPL) category, as per the PTI report.
- Women aged between 21 and 60 qualify for the help.
- The beneficiary must be a resident of for at least 10 years.
- Only one woman per family will receive the benefit.
- Further, according to the scheme, only the eldest woman of the family will be entitled to assistance.
- The of the beneficiary’s family should be below ₹2.5 lakh.
Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: Can any beneficiary be disqualified?
- As per a PTI report today, women already receiving a government or other regular financial assistance will not be eligible, according to a statement.
- Further, women or their families with a criminal record will not be eligible for benefits under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana. This includes any member having a criminal record, not just the female beneficiary.
- Also, families owning a four-wheeler are excluded.
How to apply for the ₹2,500 scheme?
- Gupta said her government is developing a portal through which the registration will be enabled.
- Further, a separate software is also being developed along with this portal by the IT department to verify applications and identify all eligible women.
- While there is no official word yet on the documents required, applicants will most likely be required to furnish their card, ration card and proof of address.
Notably, the BJP’s cash scheme is similar to those already in place in other BJP-ruled states such as ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ in Madhya Pradesh and the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ in Maharashtra.
