US stock market today: The benchmark US stock market indices opened marginally higher on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, as investors now focus on the incoming US economy labour data after the rally on Monday.

The Bureau of Labour Statistics’ monthly data release schedule suggests that the Job Openings and Labour Turnover Survey (November 2025), along with the State Employment and Unemployment monthly report (November 2025), is set to be released on 7 January 2026.

At the 9:30 a.m. opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.02% to open at 48,987.36 points. While the S&P 500 rose 0.09% to open at 6,908.03​ points. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.22% to 23,446.959 points at the opening bell.

Dow Jones today

MarketWatch data shows that Dow Jones was trading 0.41% higher at 49,175.89 points, as of 11:43 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday, compared to 48,977.18 points at the previous close.

Amazon, UnitedHealth Group Inc., Merck & Co. Inc., Salesforce Inc., Boeing Co., Sherwin-Williams Co., McDonald’s Corp., International Business Machines Corp., Caterpillar Inc., Amgen Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and Johnson & Johnson were among the top gainers during Tuesday’s early market session.

While others like Chevron Corp., Travelers Cos. Inc., Apple Inc., Nike Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., 3M Co., and Microsoft Corp. were among the top laggards.



S&P 500 today

The S&P 500 index was trading 0.26% higher at 6,919.78 points as of 12:00 p.m. (EDT), compared to 6,902.05 points at the previous close, according to MarketWatch data.

Sandisk Corp., Western Digital Corp., Seagate Technology Holdings Plc., Microchip Technology Inc., Albemarle Corp., Moderna Inc., Texas Instruments Inc., NXP Semiconductors N.V., Lam Research Corp., and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd were among the top gainers.

While others like American International Group Inc., Johnson Controls International Plc, Trane Technologies Plc, AppLovin Corp., Equifax Inc., Tesla Inc., Fair Isaac Corp., Paramount Skydance Corp., Generax Holdings Inc., and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. were among the top laggards.

Nasdaq today

The Nasdaq Composite index was trading 0.24% higher at 23,451.19 points as of 12:08 p.m. (EDT), compared to 23,395.82 points at the previous market close, MarketWatch data shows.

Alumis Inc., Sky Quarry Inc., Autozi Internet Technology Global Ltd, Envirotech Vehicles Inc., Cyclerion Therapeutics Inc., Murano Global Investments Plc, Brand Engagement Network Inc., Acrivon Therapeutics Inc., Aeva Technologies Inc., and Terrestrial Energy Inc. were among the top gainers.
