Walmart-owned Flipkart has appointed former Tata Digital chief technology officer Vinay Vaidya as senior vice president for technology, as the e-commerce major strengthens its leadership team to build AI-driven supply chain and marketplace capabilities.
In his new role, Vaidya will lead technology and platform development across fulfilment services, seller experience, trust and safety, and the marketplace, while driving innovation in logistics and AI-powered capabilities, the company said on Thursday.
Vaidya brings more than two decades of experience in digital commerce and technology. Before joining Flipkart, he served as CTO at Tata Digital, where he led the company’s technology strategy, platform modernisation and digital transformation initiatives. Prior to that, he spent nearly 18 years at Amazon, working across marketplace, seller ecosystem, payments, search and browse, Amazon India and grocery businesses.
Flipkart’s strategy
The appointment comes as Flipkart continues to strengthen its technology leadership bench amid increasing competition in India’s e-commerce and quick commerce markets, where companies are investing heavily in artificial intelligence, automation and supply chain optimisation.
Earlier this year, the company appointed Goda Ramkumar as vice president for data science and AI solutions, Mohan Palisetti as vice president for fintech and payments engineering, Nitesh Jain as distinguished architect, Smita Ojha as vice president for core platform engineering and Amit Sharma as vice president for programme management.
Commenting on the appointment, Balaji Thiagarajan, chief product and technology officer at Flipkart, said commerce today extends far beyond transactions, with customer experience shaped by technology across fulfilment networks, seller ecosystems and trust systems.
“Building and evolving those systems at India’s scale requires a strong combination of product thinking, technology depth and operational rigour with pervasive intelligence embedded in every step. Vinay has led at that intersection across some of the most complex commerce environments and he will play an important role in helping us strengthen the technology foundations that power Flipkart’s next phase of growth,” Thiagarajan said.
Vaidya said the opportunity to build technology at India’s scale and complexity was a key factor behind his move.
“From empowering millions of sellers to enabling one of the country’s largest supply chains, technology has the potential to make commerce simpler, faster and more inclusive. I’m excited to help build the next generation of platforms that power this journey,” he said.
