The Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) on Thursday said that a substantial quantity of misbranded infant food manufactured by British Lifesciences Pvt Ltd has been seized as part of enforcement action.
In a social media post, the food safety regulator said that an inspection was conducted at British Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru. “Strict regulatory measures were taken against British Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, following inspections focused on infant food safety and compliance,” the Authority said.
“During the inspection, a significant quantity of misbranded infant food articles was identified and seized in accordance with the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006,” it added.
Considering the serious nature of the violations and the potential risk posed by non-compliant infant food products to infants and young children, appropriate legal proceedings were initiated against the company, it added
It added that 3.7 MT of expired infant food articles were ordered for destruction as per the Court’s directions.
“The expired stock was safely disposed of to prevent its re-use, diversion, or reintroduction into the food chain,” it added.
The Authority said that the enforcement action reinforces the commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of infants and young children.
