Hitachi signs MoU with TN Govt for ₹1,000 crore expansion of Chennai, Chengalpattu facilities

Hitachi Energy, part of Switzerland’s Hitachi Group, has signed an MoU with the Department of Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, Government of Tamil Nadu to expand its facilities in the state. 

Under the MoU, Hitachi will invest ₹1,000 crore for the expansion of its Global Technology and Innovation Centre in Chennai and its manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu.  

The investments, planned over the next three to five years, are expected to create 1,000 additional high-quality technology jobs, a statement from the state government said.

The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu  Joseph Vijay here on Tuesday. The event also saw the presence of Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries S. Keerthana and Venu Nuguri Managing Director of Hitachi India. 

Both the company’s Global Technology and Innovation Centre, and manufacturing facility were inaugurated in 2023. 

This is the second major MoU signed under the new TVK government in Tamil Nadu, after last month’s agreement with Larsen & Toubro Limited for implementing three projects involving an investment of ₹18,600 crore and generating employment for 8,200 persons.
