Larsen & Toubro Group’s technology services company LTM Ltd, which inaugurated its new global delivery and AI competency centre in Kolkata on Thursday, fully commissioned the first phase of the project and will accommodate nearly 5,800 engineers and professionals.
Speaking at the event, SN Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director, Larsen & Toubro, said the group sees “real potential” to grow this campus into a larger technology for innovation for it in the years ahead.
The centre, christened “Ananda Niketan”, located at the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub, will create a world-class environment for high-value technology careers, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said.
Adhikari assured LTM, formerly known as LTIMindtree, that the State government would hand over an additional 10 acre for its expansion plans.
Ananda Niketan becomes one of LTM’s largest technology investments in eastern India. “The first phase is fully commissioned and towers one and two will together accommodate nearly 5,800 engineers, professionals and across close to 8 lakh sq ft. LTM’s Kolkata operations will come together here in an integrated campus designed for collaboration, learning and innovation, serving global clients across banking and financial services, consulting, travel, manufacturing, energy and technology powered by artificial intelligence, data, cloud and digital engineering,” Subrahmanyan said, adding Kolkata’s academic heritage, skilled talent and growing digital infrastructure make this its natural home for this campus.
“Beyond the buildings, what defines Ananda Niketan is its people — the engineers, technologists and problem solvers who will learn, collaborate and build new capabilities here every single day for clients around the world,” he said.
Subrahmanyan said LTM has approval to build four more towers on the site, and L&T Realty is already working to build the remaining towers at the campus.
Opportunities galore
Adhikari urged skilled and educated professionals from West Bengal working elsewhere in India and abroad to return, assuring them of opportunities under the “double-engine government”.
He said his government’s priority was to create employment opportunities for the State’s large pool of educated youth and rebuild Bengal as an investment destination. “There are a huge number of educated unemployed. They need jobs and are very much interested in Bengal.”
He said the government was particularly focused on creating opportunities in emerging technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, chip design, automation and digital manufacturing.
