Mahajan Imaging & Labs and Neuberg Diagnostics have entered into a joint venture to expand pathology, genomics and wellness services across North India, with plans to establish laboratories across cities in seven states and add around 20 centres offering radiology services over the next three to five years.
The companies said the expansion will follow a hub-and-spoke model, with plans for hundreds of collection centres across the seven states. The partners will also establish two centres of excellence for pathology in Delhi-NCR for specialised and super-speciality testing.
Dr GSK Velu, founder, chairman and managing director of Chennai-based Neuberg Diagnostics, said the partnership essentially combines Neuberg’s pathology capabilities with Mahajan Imaging & Labs’ expertise in imaging.
Joint Venture
Velu said the company planned to bring its expertise in genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, digital pathology and molecular diagnostics to North India. “We will create two centres of excellence in Delhi, one in Gurgaon, another in Delhi, to bring in all super-speciality, sub-specialities of pathology right here in Delhi,” he said.
As part of the partnership, Mahajan Imaging & Labs will be Neuberg’s exclusive partner across seven states in North India and will take over Neuberg’s existing laboratories in Noida, Lucknow and Jammu. Kabir Mahajan will serve as CEO of the joint venture.
Dr Harsh Mahajan, founder and chairman, Mahajan Imaging & Labs, said the companies would seek to keep prices aligned with the market while expanding access to specialised diagnostics.
“We will try to follow the market price while delivering the highest possible quality. In the long run, as we scale up and as the numbers increase, we do think that we will be able to overall reduce rates especially,” he said.
Lower Costs
He said higher volumes could particularly help bring down the cost of genomics testing. “Genomics again is to higher the volumes, lower the price,” Mahajan said.
They also said they would consider acquisitions as part of their expansion strategy, alongside organic growth.
“We hope to expand both organically as well as through the acquisition route,” Mahajan said, adding that the company would focus on quality and ethical practices while selecting potential partners. “We would want to partner with clinical leaders in different geographies because then the ethos of keeping the patient at the centre of the entire ecosystem gets retained,” he said.
Expanding Business
The joint venture expects advanced diagnostics such as genomics and molecular pathology to account for a significantly larger share of its northern India business over the next few years. According to the companies, such services currently contribute less than 10 per cent of their northern India business but are expected to rise to more than 30 per cent over the next three years.
The partnership comes amid growing consolidation in India’s organised diagnostics sector and increasing demand for preventive, specialised and precision diagnostics. ICRA has estimated that organised diagnostic players could record 12-14 per cent revenue growth in FY27, driven by wellness testing, specialised services and expansion into non-metro markets.
The companies said the joint venture would also integrate pathology, imaging, nuclear medicine and genomics, while strengthening laboratory infrastructure, sample collection, digital systems and logistics.
