M&M shares trade below open as strong August sales data fails to sustain early rally

Shares of were trading at ₹3,302 on the National Stock Exchange as of 12.36 pm on Tuesday, up ₹20 or 0.61 per cent from Monday’s close of ₹3,282, but well off the day’s high of ₹3,368 touched in early trade.

The stock opened sharply higher at ₹3,367, an ₹85 premium to the previous close, following the company’s release of strong August 2026 sales numbers before market hours. However, selling pressure emerged through the mid-morning session, pulling the stock down nearly ₹86 from its intraday peak. At current levels, the scrip is trading closer to its day’s low of ₹3,282. Sell-side order flow dominates, with 60.73 per cent of total queued quantity on the sell side against 39.27 per cent on the buy side, a ratio suggesting continued near-term caution among traders.

Traded volume stood at 8.81 lakh shares with a traded value of ₹292.33 crore by midday. Deliverable quantity accounted for 52.24 per cent of traded volume, indicating a reasonable proportion of non-speculative interest.

The sales disclosures showed Mahindra’s auto division clocking 59,257 SUVs domestically in August, a 50 per cent year-on-year jump, and total vehicle sales of 1,07,648 units, up 42 per cent. The Farm Equipment Business sold 27,595 tractors, a 5 per cent rise, while the Trucks & Buses segment reported 2,495 units at 47 per cent growth.

Despite the operational momentum, the stock’s year-to-date performance remains negative at,12.20 per cent, underperforming the Nifty 50’s,7.80 per cent YTD return. The 52-week high of ₹3,839.90, hit in January 2026, remains a distant reference point, though the stock has recovered from its 52-week low of ₹2,896 recorded in March.

The stock’s annualised volatility stands at 33.82 per cent at the time of reporting.
