The National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) has called off the e-auction for sale of residential units on Africa Avenue near New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri, reported Business Today. In a notification, the state-owned construction company said the e-auction invited under its July 17, 2026 notice was being cancelled with immediate effect due to “administrative reasons”. The e-auction was cancelled, as per the notification, by exercising the right reserved by the company in the original application document.
The notification did not provide further details about what led to the decision or if the e-auction is to be halted indefinitely.
The e-auction was meant to offer residential units on a freehold basis at Avenue Towers, located on Africa Avenue in the Chanakyapuri area of, which houses several embassies and diplomatic missions.
NBCC assured the participants of a proper and fair reimbursement in its statement as it said the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) paid by applicants, along with the Auction Processing Fee paid through the RailTel Corporation of India portal, will be refunded in full.
The refunds will be credited to the bank accounts provided by applicants within three working days of the August 19 notice, the company said.
The move is notable on part of NBCC because the original auction document had clearly stated that the Auction Processing Fee would be non-refundable. However, the company said it had decided to return the fee “ex gratia and in good faith, without admission of any liability.”
In order to ensure transparency, the company also clarified that refunding the processing fee in this case should not be treated as a precedent for any future tender, auction or other process conducted by NBCC.
For now, the company advises potential buyers to keep an eye on NBCC’s website for updates on the Africa Avenue project and any fresh auction of the residential units.
NBCC has not given any further details on the administrative reasons behind the cancellation and has not announced a new date for the e-auction. Hence, buyers will have to wait for further communication from NBCC on whether a fresh auction will be announced and under what terms.
