US delegation to visit India from June 1–4 to finalise interim trade pact

The US will send a team to India from June 1 to 4 to continue discussions on a proposed interim trade agreement between the two countries. The visit is aimed at finalising key details of the pact and pushing forward talks on a wider bilateral trade agreement, a government official said on Wednesday.

The discussions are expected to focus on important areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion and economic security alignment.

India and the US had earlier agreed on a framework for an interim trade agreement during a joint statement issued on February 7. The agreement is aimed at encouraging reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade between both countries.

The framework also reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to continue negotiations on a broader India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

As part of the ongoing discussions, an Indian delegation travelled to Washington DC from April 20 to 23, 2026, for in-person meetings with US officials.

Now, the next round of discussions will take place in India, with the US team led by its Chief Negotiator.

According to the government official, the upcoming visit is expected to help finalise the details of the interim agreement while also moving negotiations forward under the broader trade pact.

“It is proposed to finalise the details of the interim agreement and take forward the negotiations under the broader BTA on multiple areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, and economic security alignment,” the official said.
