Vedanta Aluminium, Tata 1mg tie-up to bring telemedicine to remote villages

Vedanta Aluminium has opened first-of-its-kind 24×7 telemedicine facility in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district in Odisha in partnership with Tata 1mg.

The initiative will bring timely specialist medical consultation closer to communities across remote villages.

A dedicated telemedicine room has also been established at Vedanta Lanjigarh Hospital for assisted consultations.

In addition, through the Tata 1mg App, beneficiaries can access free audio and video consultations with nearly 30 specialist and super-specialist doctors, reducing the need for long-distance travel for medical guidance.

The service is expected to benefit over 70,000 people across nearly 70 remote villages in Kalahandi and adjoining regions.

Healthcare access

Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Health and Family Welfare of Odisha government said the company’s 24×7 telemedicine facility is a meaningful step towards improving healthcare access for communities in Kalahandi, especially in remote tribal and rural areas where timely medical consultation can make a significant difference.

Continued collaboration between government, industry and communities will be important in ensuring inclusive and balanced development across Odisha, he said.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO Vedanta Alumina Business said with the launch of this telemedicine service, the company will enhance last-mile access to quality healthcare for those who need it the most.

Across Odisha, especially in Kalahandi and Rayagada, many such meaningful interventions are rapidly bringing these areas to the socio-economic mainstream of the state, he said.

Vedanta Aluminium’s community programmes have positively impacted over 10 lakh people, supported by over ₹500 crore invested in social development initiatives over the years.
