Amazon has laid off nearly 1,000 employees globally, with about 106 of them in India, according to sources.
The affected employees in India are from the customer care services and retail segments. Sources said the move is aimed at making processes more streamlined and linear.
In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said: “We’re always looking at our team structures to ensure we are best set up to move fast as we innovate for customers. We have adjusted parts of our stores business because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities.”
The spokesperson added that the company had made “the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles” and is “committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.” The statement did not share country-wise numbers.
The latest cuts follow far larger rounds at the e-commerce major. Amazon announced 16,000 layoffs on January 28, its second major wave in four months after 14,000 cuts in October 2025.
