Bajaj Auto sped past TVS Motor Company in electric two-wheeler sales in June, a month when the segment crossed the 10 per cent penetration mark.
Bajaj Auto registered 50,741 units (18 per cent market share) compared with 30,593 units in June last year. TVS Motor was a close second with 47,952 registrations (17 per cent share), up from 28,428 units, as per Vahan data as of the morning of June 30.
Ather Energy continued its growth trajectory with 29,423 registrations, compared with 16,015 units in June 2025, increasing its market share to 10 per cent from 9 per cent.
Strong growth
Overall, India’s electric two-wheeler (E2W) market posted strong growth in June 2026, with registrations rising 52 per cent year-on-year to 2,85,385 units, driven by growing consumer acceptance, wider model availability and stronger participation by established manufacturers. Both Pure EV and Battery-Operated Vehicles are considered for the analysis.
Registrations also increased 74 per cent sequentially, and electric two-wheelers accounted for about 10.5 per cent of total two-wheeler sales during the month.
Hero MotoCorp emerged as the fastest-growing player, with registrations more than doubling to 20,218 units from 7,921 units a year earlier. Its market share rose to 7 per cent from 4 per cent.
In contrast, Ola Electric continued to lose ground. Its registrations fell to 15,096 units from 20,697 units in June 2025.
Broader acceptance
“The standout development in June was E2W penetration crossing the 10 per cent mark for the first time, underscoring the sector’s transition from early adoption to broader market acceptance,” said Poonam Upadhyay, Director, Crisil Ratings. She attributed the growth to improving affordability on a total cost-of-ownership basis, a wider range of models and increasing participation by established original equipment manufacturers.
“The rise in penetration from 7.3 per cent in June 2025 and 9.3 per cent in May 2026 to around 10.5 per cent in June 2026, alongside robust growth in registrations, highlights the sustained momentum in EV adoption and reinforces the increasing mainstream acceptance of electric two-wheelers within the broader mobility market,” she said.
