Spanish automotive components maker Gestamp on Tuesday inaugurated its fifth manufacturing facility in India at Bhagapura, Gujarat, marking a ₹523.7 crore investment across two phases as the company steps up its presence in one of the country’s key automotive manufacturing hubs.
The Bhagapura plant, which currently employs around 240 people, has a manufacturing footprint of 31,790 square metres and is equipped with two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations. The facility will initially manufacture highly engineered body-in-white (BiW) components, including products from Gestamp’s Ges-Gigastamping family. The company said the facility could be expanded in the future, subject to approvals, to cater to rising demand.

After two decades here, we have established ourselves as a trusted technology partner for both domestic and international automakers operating in the country. Our investment in Gujarat enables us to begin manufacturing in one of India’s leading industrial hubs, strengthening our presence and driving further growth in this key market,” stated Francisco J Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp in an official release.
Growth Prospects
“India’s strong market growth prospects, combined with continued improvements in vehicle quality and increasingly demanding safety requirements, will create significant opportunities for Gestamp. Our advanced technologies, products and value proposition are specifically focused on delivering lighter and safer components that help automakers meet these evolving challenges,” he added.
The company said its advanced body structures and large, lightweight components can help automakers improve vehicle efficiency, reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance safety while simplifying vehicle assembly.
Gestamp entered India in 2006 and began developing its own manufacturing footprint from 2010 after initially participating in industrial projects through partnerships.
Manufacturing Capabilities
With the Bhagapura plant, the company’s Indian manufacturing footprint has expanded to five facilities — three in Pune, one in Chennai and one in Gujarat — covering a total of 188,000 square metres. Gestamp currently has 14 stamping production lines in India, including five using hot-stamping technology. Two additional hot-stamping lines are being installed, further expanding its local manufacturing capabilities.
The company employs around 2,300 people in India across the development and manufacture of body-in-white components and assemblies, chassis parts and mechanisms such as hinges and door checks. Gestamp’s India business has also seen significant growth in recent years. Its revenues in the country increased by more than 80 per cent over the last five full financial years, reaching €245 million in 2025.
