VinFast India has taken its first major step towards entering the country’s electric two-wheeler (E2W) market. The company has initiated plans to appoint dealers across India even as it prepares for local assembly of electric scooters, according to industry sources.
In a recent social media post, VinFast invited applications for exclusive VinFast E-Motorcycle dealership opportunities across the country, signalling that its India two-wheeler launch could be drawing closer.
“Something massive is building at VinFast E-Motorcycle India, and we are about to open the doors to a historic journey,” the company said in the advertisement. VinFast said it was looking to build an ecosystem around smart and sustainable electric mobility and sought partners who could help expand its presence across the country.
“The blueprint is ready. The ground is set. A major announcement is dropping very soon,” the post added, adding that applications from prospective dealers would be accepted until September 15.
VinFast’s move comes at a time when India’s electric two-wheeler market is gaining momentum, supported by growing consumer acceptance, expanding charging infrastructure and a wider range of products.
The Vietnamese automobile major is understood to be working on production through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route, with components imported from its overseas facilities and electric two-wheelers assembled at its car manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
On VinFast’s E2W plans, S Sathyanarayanan, a two-wheeler dealer in Villupuram, said the E2W industry was still at an early stage of development and offered considerable room for growth. Electric two-wheelers account for only around 9 per cent of the overall two-wheeler market, compared with conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, he said. Sathyanarayanan plans to apply for a VinFast dealership.
Bharat Kumar Chordia, Treasurer, FADA, said said VinFast is big e-bike company in Vietnam and have experience in this segment. India is big country, with different states having different festival at various times of year. So one country has many different auspicious days. To understand this and be present near to buyers, dealerships are required, he said.
When asked about the variants of the electric two-wheelers, Vinfast did not elaborate at the time of writing.
The E2W development in the backdrop of a recent Reuters report stating that the company is suspending production plans for some of its car variants in India. However, Vinfast then said that, “For the models currently being sold in India, VinFast has not changed or suspended its production plans as suggested by Reuters’ sources. VinFast will continue CKD assembly of these models at its Thoothukudi plant to serve the Indian market.”
In December 2025, VinFast and the Government of Tamil Nadu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to allocate approximately 200 hectares of land in the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi to support the development of the company’s existing facility.
As the second phase of its existing $2 billion commitment, VinFast said it will invest $500 million in Thoothukudi to develop new dedicated workshops and production lines for electric buses and e-scooters, covering manufacturing, assembly, testing and other related operations.
